Professor Anwer Masood and Amjad Islam Amjad visit Embassy

Two prominent poets of contemporary Urdu and Punjabi literature, Professor Anwer Masood and Amjad Islam Amjad visited the Embassy of Pakistan on 27 March 2017. They were accompanied by Dr. Amjad Saqib, founder of Akhuwat Foundation and Mr. Saqib Tasneem of the Helping Humanity and others. They inter-mingled with the Embassy staff and recited some of their well-known poetic works at the request of members of the Mission.

The two poets were in Copenhagen to attend a fundraising dinner organized by the Helping Humanity, a local charity.

Embassy of Pakistan, Copenhagen celebrates Pakistan Day


Pakistan Day was observed with great zeal and fervour in Denmark on 23rd March 2016. The main event of the celebrations was the flag hoisting ceremony held at the Chancery. The ceremony was attended by a large number of members of the Pakistani community representing various walks of life. This included professionals, academicians, media men, politicians, poets and students. Some of them came from different regions of Denmark and also from Malmo, a town of southern Sweden, Norway and Germany.


The flag hoisting was performed by Ambassador Masroor A. Junejo. He read the messages by the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan for this occasion.  Urdu translation of the messages was read by First Secretary Zain ul Abidin. In his remarks, Ambassador Junejo noted that the country is on the path of economic growth. He highlighted the significance and successes of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The Ambassador paid rich tributes to the members of the Armed forces and the personnel of law enforcement agencies who have been offering great sacrifices for security and territorial integrity of Pakistan. Students of the Jinnah International School rendered patriotic songs which were enjoyed and appreciated by the audience. The ceremony ended with distribution of certificates and gifts to the children of the Jinnah International School and others who had participated in the event and prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.

 

A reception was hosted by the Ambassador to celebrate Pakistan Day at the Embassy Residence on 24 March 2017. The Ambassador, during his remarks, highlighted the significance of the Day and referred to the strides that Pakistan was making in economy and other fields. He also touched upon growing bilateral ties between Pakistan and Denmark in political, economic, military, and cultural spheres. During the ceremony, a special dhol performance followed by Qawali was organized to showcase Pakistan’s rich culture.

The reception was attended by a large number of dignitaries comprising Danish officials, diplomats, business community, and prominent members of Pakistani community in Copenhagen.

Play on the Life and Times of Sufi Poet Bulleh Shah

 

                      Renowned theatre group of Pakistan "Ajoka Theatre" performed "Bulha" - a play on the life and times of Sufi poet Bulleh Shah at Helsingør on 24th November 2016. The play was watched among others by Ambassador Masroor Junejo and Mr. Ole Thonke, Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan. Although the play was in Punjabi, English text was available on the monitors in the theatre. The performance was widely appreciated by the audience who gave a long standing ovation to the group at the end of play. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Junejo thanked the Centre for Culture and Development, Copenhagen for sponsoring the play.

100th Birthday of Mr. Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi

The Embassy of Pakistan, Copenhagen organized a literary gathering at the Chancery on 20 November 2016 to celebrate the 100th birthday of renowned poet, late Mr. Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi. The event was attended by a large number of community members having interest in literary pursuits. Those who spoke on the occasion included Mr. Nassr Malik, a veteran journalist, writer and poet, Mr. Iqbal Akhtar, pattern of the Urdu Forum and Mr. Abid Ali Abid, founding member of the Iqbal Academy Scandinavia in addition to Ambassador Masroor A. Junejo. The speakers paid rich tributes to Mr. Qasmi for his contribution to various genres of Urdu Literature.

Ambassador Masroor A. Junejo attends the inauguration of an international exhibition of UNESCO World Heritage Sites organized by (KUKS)

Ambassador Masroor A. Junejo attended the inauguration of an international exhibition on UNESCO World Heritage Sites organized by the Cultural Confederation of Foreign Societies (KUKS) to mark the Untied Nations Day on 24 October 2016. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mayor (Culture) for Copenhagen. Diplomatic missions of 36 countries, including Pakistan, are participating in the event that is taking place at the Copenhagen City Hall. The exhibition will continue till 29th October 2016. The theme of Pakistani stand is focusing on Indus Valley and Gandhara civilisations.

Ambassador attends inauguration of an exhibition by Aisha Khalid at National Gallery of Art, Copenhagen


Ambassador  Masroor A. Junejo attended inauguration of an exhibition of works "Two Worlds as One" by renowned contemporary artist of Pakistan Aisha Khalid at Copenhagen's premier art museum, National Gallery of Denmark (Statens Museum for Kunst) on 7th October. The event was attended by several art lovers and staff of the museum. Aisha graduated from the Miniature Department of the National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore and did her post graduation in Fine Arts from Rijksakademie, Amsterdam. While talking to Aisha, the Ambassador appreciated her work and congratulated her for putting Pakistan on the art scene in Denmark.  The exhibition will continue for the next six months.

Embassy of Pakistan, Copenhagen celebrates Independence Day



Independence Day of Pakistan was observed with great zeal and fervour in Denmark on 14th August 2016. The main event of the celebrations was the flag hoisting ceremony held at the Embassy of Pakistan in Copenhagen. The ceremony was attended by a large number of members of the Pakistani community representing various walks of life. This included professionals, academicians, media men, politicians, poets and students. Some of them came from different regions of Denmark and also from Malmo, a town of southern Sweden.


The flag hoisting was performed by Ambassador Masroor A. Junejo. He read the messages by the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan for this occasion.  Urdu translation of the messages was read by Second Secretary Zain ul Abideen. In his remarks, Ambassador Junejo paid rich tributes to the martyrs in the recent terror attacks in Quetta and also alluded to the sacrifices being made by the people of Indian occupied Kashmir in their struggle to attain the right of self determination. He also paid rich tributes to the members of the Armed forces and the personnel of law enforcement agencies who have been offering great sacrifices for security and territorial integrity of Pakistan. The Ambassador introduced new members of the Embassy to the guests. Students of the Jinnah International School, Zafar Iqbal Shaikh and Omair Hussain rendered patriotic songs which were enjoyed and appreciated by the audience. Mr. Junejo presented a shield and a cash prize to Jawad Shafique, a Danish student of Pakistani heritage  for his outstanding performance in the Graduation examination.


The ceremony ended with distribution of certificates and souvenirs to the children of the Jinnah International School and others who had participated in the event and prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan. Special prayers were also offered for the martyrs of the recent terror attacks in Quetta and also in Indian occupied Kashmir.

The Embassy of Pakistan Organized Event to Pay Tributes to Maulana Abdul Sattar Edhi

 

The Embassy of Pakistan in Copenhagen organized an event on 15 July 2016 to pay tributes to Maulana Abdul Sattar Edhi, a prominent philanthropist and humanitarian. The event was attended by a very large number of members of Pakistani community in Denmark. A short documentary on the life of Edhi Sahib was shown to the audience. Ambassador Masroor A. Junejo paid rich tributes to the late philanthropist and stated that his legacy will continue to inspire many in the world particularly in Pakistan. The ceremony ended with special prayers for him.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif condoles the demise of former Prime Minister of Denmark, Mr. Anker Jøgerensen

Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has offered his heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of the former Prime Minister Anker Jøgerensen. In a message of condolence addressed to  Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Prime Minister of Denmark, the Prime Minister stated that Mr. Jøgerensen will always be remembered as a leader of great qualities and tremendous foresight. His demise was indeed a national loss for Denmark. The Prime Minister added: "We in Pakistan share the feelings of sorrow and loss felt by the people of Denmark and join you in this hour of grief".

Pakistan Day celebrations in Copenhagen

 

Pakistan Day was celebrated in Copenhagen, on 23rd March 2016 at the Embassy of Pakistan with usual zeal and fervour. The day began with the flag hoisting ceremony at the Chancery which  was attended by a large number of the members of the Pakistani community, some of whom had come from far flung areas of Denmark. Ambassador Masroor A. Junejo hoisted the national flag  to the accompaniment of the national anthem. He then read messages of the President and the Prime Minister received for this occasion. The Urdu translation of the messages was rendered by the Head of Chancery Mr. Zainul Abideen.  Addressing the participants,  Ambassador Junejo thanked them for their presence and announced names of the winners of the essay competition to commemorate the Iqbal Day in April.

The flag hoisting ceremony also included recitation of Holy Quran by Qari Muhammed Nadeem Akhtar; milli songs by  Sheikh Zafar Iqbal and prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.  It ended with the distribution of gifts to participants of the ceremony by the Ambassador and Mrs. Shabana Junejo.

Later Ambassador Junejo and Mrs. Junejo hosted a reception at the Embassy residence which was attended by a large number of dignitaries representing government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, politicians, business enterprises, academicians and the Pakistani community. The guests were also shown glimpses of the Pakistani fashion, food and sufi music.

Pakistan opens Honourary Consulate General in Lithuania

Ambassador Masroor A. Junejo, and Ambassador Jonas Paslauskas, Adviser for Foreign Affairs to the Lithuanian Prime Minister inaugurated the Honourary Consulate General of Pakistan in Vilnius on 18th January 2016.  Mr. Igoris Kupstas a well known businessman has been appointed as Pakistan's Consul General.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent businessmen of Lithuania, CEOs of trade bodies, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and members of the Pakistani community in Lithuania. 

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Junejo congratulated Mr. Kupstas on his appointment and expressed the hope that the Consulate will play a pivotal role in further consolidating bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Lithuania in various walks of life and look after the interests of the Pakistani community.

In his remarks, Ambassador Paslauskas congratulated the Government of Pakistan and offered full assistance to the Honourary Consul General. 

Earlier, Ambassador Junejo met President Dalia Grybauskaite in a new year reception hosted by later in honour of the heads of Missions accredited to Lithuania and informed her about the formal launching of the Consulate. President Grybauskaite welcomed Pakistan's decision to open the Consular mission at Vilnius and hoped that the relations between Pak will continue to grow stronger in the years ahead. 

Diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Lithuania were established in May 1994. The Honourary Consulate General of Pakistan at Vilnius is the first  representation of Pakistan in any Baltic state.

Challenge of Terrorism Calls for Strengthening Resolve to a Cooperative Approach

 

The unfortunate terrorist incident in Pathankot, India, has been categorically condemned by Pakistan.

We understand the pain of many families who have lost their dear ones in this tragedy, as Pakistan itself is a major victim of terrorism.

We have extended our deepest condolences to the Government and people of India.

In line with Pakistan’s commitment to effectively counter and eradicate terrorism, the Government is in touch with the Indian government and is working on the leads provided by it.

Living in the same region and with a common history, the two countries should remain committed to a sustained dialogue process. The challenge of terrorism calls for strengthening our resolve to a cooperative approach.

Embassy of Pakistan Copenhagen at International Gala Festival of National Fare (KUKS)

Cultural Confederation of Foreign Societies (KUKS) organized KUKS International Gala Festival of National Fare on 23rd October 2015 at the Copenhagen City Hall to celebrate the United Nations' Day. 28 countries including Pakistan participated in the event which showcased cultural and culinary traditions of the participating countries.

Pakistani stall attracted a lot of visitors who did not only appreciate Pakistani food but also showed keen interest in Pakistani artefacts displayed at the stall.

Ambassador Junejo raises the flag at new Embassy residence in Copenhagen

 

           The Ambassador of Pakistan to Denmark, Mr. Masroor A. Junejo raised the flag of Pakistan at the new Embassy residence this morning in a simple and solemn ceremony. The event coincided with the death anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam and Juma Mubarik. Prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador thanked the Prime Minister and the Government of Pakistan as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for facilitating the purchase of the Embassy residence in Hellerup.

Embassy of Pakistan Copenhagen bids farewell to Counsellor Mr. Modasar Chaudhry

An event was held in the Embassy on 19th August 2015 to bid farewell to Mr. Modasar Chaudhry, Counsellor and Head of Chancery who has been transferred to the Embassy of Pakistan, Belgrade.  Mr. Chaudhry had joined the Mission in September 2013. He has been replaced by Mr. Zainul Abideen, Second Secretary who has assumed the charge of his post on 21 August. Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador praised the outgoing Counsellor and wished him well in his new assignment.


Welcoming Mr. Zainul Abideen, the Ambassador expressed the hope that he would serve the Mission with zeal and dedication. He added that the new Secretary would also take interest in the community related affairs in addition to the political and economic matters. Mr. Zainul Abideen had joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad in July 2009. He is a law graduate. He is accompanied by wife and two children.

              The flag hoisting was performed by Ambassador Masroor A. Junejo. He read the messages by the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan for this occasion.  Counsellor Mudasar Chowdhry read the Urdu version of the messages.  Ambassador Junejo in his remarks paid rich tributes to the forefathers of Pakistan and briefed the community regarding steps that the government was taking to address the challenges being faced by the country. He also paid rich tributes to the members of the Armed forces and the personnel of law enforcement agencies who have been offering great sacrifices for security and territorial integrity of Pakistan. Students of the Jinnah International School rendered Milli songs. Omair Hussain, a talented Pakistani vocalist also performed during the ceremony.


                The ceremony ended with distribution of certificates to the children of the Jinnah International School who had participated in the event and prayers for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan. Special prayers were also offered for the success of operation Zarb-e-Azab.

Embassy of Pakistan, Copenhagen hosted Ceremony in honour of Mr. Ghulam Sabir,for his services to the field of Iqbaliaat.

A ceremony was held at the Embassy to present an award conferred by the Government of Pakistan on the noted Iqbaliaat scholar Mr. Ghulam Sabir in recognition of his research work on the poet-philosopher of Pakistan Dr. Allama Iqbal and particularly for his book “Iqbal, Religion & Physics of the New Age.” The award consists of a Gold Medal and a certificate. Presenting the gold medal and certificate to Mr. Ghulam Sabir, Ambassador Masroor Junejo paid rich tributes to him and asked the young generation to emulate him and spread the message of Allama Iqbal across the world.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Mr. Nasar Malik, Mr. Bashi Qureshi,  Mr. Monis Kamil,  Ms. Saadia Moeed, Ms. Saadia Akbar Manan and Ms. Anne Sabir. Prominent Urdu poets Mr. Iqbal Akhtar and Islam Saqi also presented their poems praising the achievements of the recipient of the above award.

                
Mr. Ghulam Sabir thanked the Government of Pakistan for recognizing his scholarly work and recited some of Iqbal's poems.

Ambassador Junejo visits the Faroe Islands

Ambassador Masroor A. Junejo joined a group of Copenhagen based Ambassadors and their spouses that visited the Faroe Islands on 18-20 May 2015. The Islands are an archipelago between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean and have been a self-governing country within the Danish Realm since 1948. The Faroese have control of most domestic matters. Areas that remain the responsibility of Denmark include national security, justice and foreign affairs.

The visit was jointly organized by the Protocol Department of the Danish Foreign Office and the Faroese authorities. During the visit, the group received detailed briefings from the Prime Minister, Speaker of the Faroese Parliament, Mayor of Klasvik Town, Danish High Commissioner to the Faroe Islands and several other officials on the political landscape, economic, social and cultural aspects of life on these beautiful islands with a population of less than 50,000. The group also visited places of historic, cultural, political and economic significance.

The members of the group expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation to the Chief of Protocol and her team for organising this memorable visit and also for the warm hospitality.

Flag Hoisting Ceremony Held at Embassy of Pakistan, Copenhagen:-

 

Pakistan Day was celebrated in Copenhagen, on 23rd March 2015 at the Embassy of Pakistan in a simple and dignified manner. The ceremony started with recitation of holy Quran by Qari Zaheer Ahmand; Ambassador Masroor Junejo welcomed the guests in his inaugurating speech and children from the Jinnah International School sang milli songs. Subsequently the messages of President of Pakistan and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out to the audience; Mr. Sheikh Zafar Iqbal, sang songs to pay homage to our armed forces and a young and promising poet Mr. Imran Khan, recited his poem to express his love for the motherland. After these colorful activities, Ambassador Masroor Junejo hoisted the national flag at the tune of national anthem. Prior to conclusion of the ceremony, certificates were distributed by Madam Shabana Junejo, Spouse of Ambassador, among the children present at the occasion and prayers were offered by Allama Muhammad Zaheer Butt for the peace and prosperity of the nation and its integrity. The ceremony concluded with serving of refreshments to the guests. The event was well attended by the Community members representing all walks of life. A local radio ‘Radio Hamwatan’ broadcast the ceremony live. 

 

Pakistan Day Reception Hosted by Ambassador of Pakistan:-

Ambassador of Pakistan Mr. Masroor Junejo  & Mrs. Shabana Junejo, hosted a reception in the afternoon of 23rd March 2015 to celebrate Pakistan Day, in a local hotel which was attended by a large number of guests representing the Danish Government and Foreign Office, private sector & business community and the civil society. Besides, a large number of Ambassadors, Heads of Mission and members of diplomatic corps based in Copenhagen were also present. Prominent members of Pakistani community and Pakistani origin business community were also present among the audience. The guests were served with traditional Pakistani and continental cuisine and live Pakistani music was also arranged which was greatly appreciated by the guests.

Chairman PRCS interacts with Pakistani community at the Embassy

 

The Chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Dr. Saeed Elahi is currently on an official visit to Copenhagen on the invitation of the Danish Red Cross. He is accompanied by Mr. Ghulam Muhammed Awan, Director (Operations).

Dr. Elahi yesterday paid a visit to the Embassy and met notables of the community in Denmark. He and Director (Operations) gave comprehensive briefings/presentations on the invaluable work the Society is doing in Pakistan. The presentations were followed by a lively Q&A session. The audience appreciated the role that the PRCS has played in relief work during and after disasters in Pakistan and assured the Chairman their full support for the objectives of the Society.

A delegation of the Youth Parliament of Pakistan visits Denmark

A delegation of the Youth Parliament of Pakistan is currently on a study tour to Denmark at the invitation of Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) . The delegation includes Mr. Aqeel Ahmad Yousafzai, Youth Prime Minister,  Mr. Muhammad Shahzar Ilahi, Leader of the Opposition Youth Parliament, Mr. Ali Shan Khan  Youth Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, Syeda Mizhgan Mehboob Kirmani,  Chairperson Youth Standing Committee on Education and Youth Affairs, Ms. Rahy Farooq,  Member, Youth Standing Committee on Education & Youth Affairs and Mr. Sohaib Saeed  Chairman, Youth Standing Committee on Finance, Economic Affairs and Planning.

The delegation is accompanied by Syed Naveed Qamar, MNA, Chairman, National Assembly Standing Committee on Railways, Mr. Omar Ayub Khan, MNA,  PML-N Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Privatization and Mr. Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, President, Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) and Secretary General Youth Parliament.

The engagements of the delegation include visits to various Danish institutions such as the Danish Parliament, Ministry of Children, Gender Equality, Integration and Social Affairs, Council of Ethnic Minorities, DANIDA Fellowship Centre and the Danish Youth Council and meetings with Danish MPs.

Youth Parliament is an initiative of PILDAT to inculcate in youth of Pakistan values and spirit of democracy, the importance of dialogue and understanding of the concept of Parliament and its role in democratic decision-making and oversight.

The Ambassador of Pakistan, Mr. Masroor A. Junejo hosted a dinner in the honour of the delegation at his residence. The dinner was also attended by Mr. Nadeem Farooq, MP (Danish Folketing/Parliament) and Mr. Abbas Razvi, Regional Councillor.
