Ambassador Syed Zulfiqar Gardezi called on Mr. Anders Samuelsen,Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark, at the Udenrigsministeriet (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), today.Pakistan-Denmark bilateral relations, cooperation in multilateral fora and the situation in South Asian region were also discussed.

While conveying best wishes from Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan,Ambassador Gardezi affirmed his commitment to enhance bilateral ties to the mutual benefit of both countries. The presence of a large Pakistani diaspora in Denmark also constituted a bond in bilateral relations.

In the meeting, Ambassador Gardezi highlighted the remarkable success of Pakistan's counter-terrorism operations and the resolve of the Government to pursue these to their logical conclusion. Coupled with the high economic growth rate itportends well for the future direction of the country. It also opened up opportunities in the fields of trade and investment; it was therefore hoped that Danish investors, would benefit from these opportunities.

Foreign Minister Samuelsen reciprocated the message of good-will. Welcoming the Ambassador to Denmark, he said that he looked forward to working with him. Foreign Minister Samuelsen expressed the desire of his Government to further build on the friendly relations to realize the potential of closer relations especially in the economic field. He noted that in addition to the bilateral context, the two countries enjoyed good cooperation in the multilateral fora. He acknowledged the success of Pakistan's counter-terrorism efforts.

The meeting with the Danish Foreign Minister followed the presentation of Letter of Credence to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II by Ambassador Gardezi, last week.
